Matt Rankin – President

Matt Rankin was born and raised in Phillipsburg, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture in May of 1991. Matt started his career in Seattle, WA and moved his family to Fort Collins in July of 1998. Matt formed r4 Architects in 2006 and has continued to develop his reputation through attentive service and responsible design. His resume’ includes numerous projects in commercial, retail, residential, multi-family and industrial projects.  Matt has also worked extensively in medical, hospitality, laboratory, and sports/recreation project types.

Matt understands business is built on the foundation of relationships. He fosters positive relationships through interactive communication and proactive design. Matt’s mission is to provide his clientele’ with personalized service, responsible design, and reliable execution. His designs are flexible, diverse, and market-sensitive.

Matt currently holds professional architectural licenses in Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. He is NCARB certified and a LEED Accredited professional.

Matt lives with his dog, Snap in southeast Fort Collins.

James Ohlson – Associate

James was born in Cambridge Nebraska and moved to Garden City Kansas in 1989. After graduating from Garden City Community College with an Associates of Arts Degree he moved on to Kansas State University. He began his career in Vail, Colorado after graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. James moved with his family to the Fort Collins area in 2008. His resume includes multi-family, single family residential, commercial, education and recreation projects. James has worked on both ground-up construction as well as renovation projects. James is currently taking his Architects Registration Exam to become a licensed Architect. He is an associate member of AIA.

John Wayne

Born Marion Michael Morrison in Winterset, Iowa, John Wayne grew to epitomize the definition of honesty, dependability and integrity throughout his 40 year movie career.

As co-founder of r4 Architects, The Duke serves as our role model and silent spokesman, reminding us daily of our obligation to our clients and our community.
